Yesterday I attended a “Headstrong” session run by breast cancer care at the women’s health unit at PCH. It was an individual session with two (I presume) volunteers. They spent an hour taking me through all the different headwear options I have for when I lose my hair. I have to say I found this a lot more valuable than I thought I might having been through the hair loss malarkey before!
Here are two examples of websites selling headwear for women suffering from headloss:
Now I was only aware of the first type of website. They all show all the head gear on mannequins and it all feels like a patient website, rather than a fashion site. Seeing the hats on mannequins gives no feel for what the hats might actually look like on a real person. This has totally put me off buying any of the items in the past.
In the session I got to try on a huge selection of different hats, scarfs, bandanas, sleep wear, even fake fringes!! It was great to see them all in the flesh and worked out what suited you. I also found out about more classier websites like the second one where they even have the hats sized by the cm to your headsize!! Although they are a bit more pricey I have already put in my order for the blue one below! And amazingly you also get freebies at the session too!!! A cotton scarf and silk scarf of your choice 🙂
Here are some silly pictures of me pratting around in the hats/scarfs and my old wig!!
In other news I got an amazing surprise today in the post. Sarah from work sent me this beautiful package of goodies from herself and her daughter!! I don’t often get emotional but it was lovely to receive this and certainly bought a smile to my face!! Thank you so much Sarah!! Also, LOVE the sentiment in the postcard, just watch me fight this!!!!
Today i got out on my day release and visited the (amazingly friendly, yet licky) cows at ferry meadows!! ha ha Also cooked my dad and I up some pasta bake and chilled out at home. I’m allowed home from pretty much 2:30 – 8:30/9 at the moment, just long enough to chill out at home before I have to get carted back to hospital for my antibiotics!
Medically….. not much change other than I’m almost eating normal human amounts again and my CT scan is booked in for tomorrow morning!
